Wine & Aperitivo

Wines of Capri and Campania

In Capri you mostly drink Campanian wines: whites from Falanghina, Greco and Fiano, reds from Aglianico and Piedirosso. Island vineyards are few and small, so wine lists naturally look to Campi Flegrei, Vesuvio, Irpinia and the Amalfi Coast.

The whites of the bay

Falanghina from Campi Flegrei is saline and direct, excellent with raw fish. Greco di Tufo has more body and stands up to cooked fish; Fiano di Avellino stays floral and works with vegetables and fresh cheeses.

Reds that work by the sea

Piedirosso, locally per'e palummo, is light and can be served slightly cool even in summer. Aglianico gives more structured reds, suited to meat dishes and aged cheeses.

How to choose at the table

Mixed starters and preserves call for a dry, savoury white; main courses allow more body. In Piazzetta Cerio, Spirito di Capri keeps the wine list next to the drink list: the current selection is on the Menu page.
