Sunset in Capri: where to watch it

In Capri the sun sets on the Anacapri side: the best spots are the Punta Carena lighthouse, the Migliara and, in the centre, the Gardens of Augustus with reflected light on the Faraglioni.

Punta Carena and the Migliara viewpoint

The Punta Carena lighthouse is the island's westernmost point: the sun drops straight into the water with nothing in the way. The Migliara viewpoint is a level walk from Anacapri and looks towards the Matermania rock and the open sea.

In the centre: Gardens of Augustus and Tragara

Staying in Capri town, the Gardens of Augustus catch the pink light that sets the rock above Via Krupp alight, while the Belvedere di Tragara receives the last reflections on the Faraglioni. Both are a fifteen-minute walk from the Piazzetta.

After sunset

When the light goes, the centre fills again. Spirito di Capri, in Piazzetta Cerio, stays open until 2am: one minute from the Piazzetta and a short walk from the paths coming down from the viewpoints.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best sunset spot in Capri?
Punta Carena in Anacapri, because the sun sets straight into the sea. In town, the Gardens of Augustus are the best choice.
Can I watch the sunset and dine in the centre the same evening?
Yes: from the Gardens of Augustus or Tragara you are back at the Piazzetta in fifteen minutes, in time for a booked table in the historic centre.

If you are in Capri, Spirito di Capri is at Piazzetta Cerio 6: art bar and bistrot open from 11am to 2am, closed on Tuesdays.
