In Capri you charter with or without a skipper, for half a day or a full day, leaving from Marina Grande or Marina Piccola. The real variable is not the boat: it is the hour. Casting off at nine changes your relationship with the grottoes and the coves.
Which vessel to choose
The Sorrento gozzo remains the choice most in keeping with the island: slow, stable, at home in the coves. Motorboats buy time and can reach the Amalfi Coast too; larger yachts stay at anchor and come ashore by tender.
Half day or full day
Half a day is enough for the island circuit with one swim stop. A full day allows the Faraglioni, the White Grotto, Punta Carena and lunch on board or in a marina. Rates vary with season, fuel and skipper: agree them before leaving.
Coming ashore
After the sea you want somewhere unhurried. The funicular reaches the Piazzetta in minutes, and from there Piazzetta Cerio: Spirito di Capri is open from 11am to 2am, handy for a late lunch, an aperitivo or dinner the same evening.
